Description

A rare and important example of Scandinavian modernist furniture: this Torbjørn Afdal “Hunter” lounge suite is of exceptional quality and documented rarity. Produced in Brazil by Pozza exclusively for Nordia Design, the suite reflects Afdal’s mastery of sculptural timber forms combined with relaxed, functional seating.

The four-piece suite comprises two armchairs and two single-arm modular chairs, the latter combining to form a two-seater configuration. Each element is constructed from solid Brazilian rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) and features sling seat bases, leather strap arms, and original leather upholstery — all hallmarks of the Hunter series.

The leather remains entirely original and is in excellent condition, showing a soft, even patina with no cracking or splitting. It has been carefully nourished and treated with Elephant Leather Preserver, widely regarded as a gold-standard product for the care and long-term preservation of vintage leather.
The rosewood frames have been gently cleaned and finished with a light application of hard wax, enhancing depth and grain while fully respecting the original finish.

The suite retains two original Nordia labels (now unattached), further supporting authenticity. Complete Hunter suites of this configuration, in this condition, are rarely encountered.

Condition Report

Leather:
Original and supple with an even, well-developed patina. No cracks or splits. Carefully nourished using Elephant Leather Preserver.  A couple of marks and indentations consistent with age, but overall in excellent condition.

Frames:
Brazilian rosewood frames in excellent original condition. Cleaned and protected with hard wax; structurally sound.

Overall:
Exceptional original condition for age. Presents beautifully and remains fully functional and comfortable.
