RALEIGH “THE ALL-STEEL BICYCLE” Enamel Advertising Sign — c. 1935 to 1950
An exceptional British enamel advertising sign from the golden age of cycling, produced for Raleigh Industries of Nottingham. This genuine mid-century dealership sign features vivid yellow enamel with bold black lettering, red shadowing, a fine black border and a simple line-art bicycle illustration. Crafted from heavy-gauge steel and kiln-fired with multiple vitreous enamel layers, each colour was applied and fired separately. The subtle pooling of enamel, small undulations in the glaze and the distinctive wavy oxidation pattern on the reverse confirm period manufacture.
A vibrant and well-preserved example of mid-century enamel signage and a strong display piece for collectors, decorators and those who appreciate authentic industrial design.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. Strong gloss and deep colour. Light edge wear and small chips near mounting holes consistent with age. Reverse shows characteristic blackened oxidation from kiln firing.
