Large format original 1940s Sheaf Stout Advertising Poster — Linen-Backed Lithograph by Alan D. Baker (signed). William Brooks & Co., Sydney)
A large, superb and authentic example of Australian mid-century advertising design — the classic “...and a very good-night – with Sheaf Stout” poster created for Tooth & Co. Ltd., Sydney by commercial artist Alan D. Baker. Printed by William Brooks & Co. Ltd., Sydney using traditional lithography, it shows the velvety tonal blending, painterly depth and rich saturation typical of true hand-drawn lithographic work.
This poster represents the final era of genuine lithographic advertising before offset technology became standard — the surface, colour transitions and finish distinguish it clearly from later mechanical or digital reproductions.
