Rare Early Original Melbourne Theature Poster — J. C. Williamson (Her Majesty’s, 1918)
Original Australian theatrical poster advertising the first Australian season of Oh! Oh! Delphine!!, presented by J. C. Williamson Ltd at Her Majesty’s Theatre in 1918. The bold typographic layout and dramatic photographic imagery reflect early 20th-century theatre advertising, designed for maximum impact in street and venue display.
Oh! Oh! Delphine!! was promoted as “First Time in Australia” and starred Florence Young, one of Australia’s most prominent musical theatre performers of the period. Contemporary Trove newspaper listings confirm performances beginning Saturday, September 7, 1918, during the height of J. C. Williamson’s dominance of the Australian theatrical circuit. Original posters from these productions were produced in limited numbers and rarely survive.
