**Dome-Top Travel Trunk — c.1880–1920
Sold Through Anderson & Sons, Bristol Docks**
History
A timeworn and beautifully proportioned dome-top travel trunk featuring timber slats, iron banding and riveted corners. The front stencilling to Melbourne hints at a late-19th or early-20th-century voyage, likely accompanying its owner on a long passage from Britain to Australia.
The fitted plate for Anderson & Sons, Bristol Docks aligns with workshop and outfitter trunks sold to departing passengers during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Dome lids were designed to shed water on deck, making this style especially favoured for sea travel.
